On Saturday afternoon, about a hundred people gathered in New York City’s Union Square to express solidarity with the migrant caravan walking towards the US’s southern border. Left and community organizations such as the DSA, the ISO, Left Voice, Cosecha and the Laundry Workers’ center co-sponsored the action, signing a joint statement in support of the migrant caravan. See participants read the statement below:
The statement, like many of the speeches, addressed the nefarious role of US imperialism in Central America, including the most recent coup in Honduras orchestrated by the Obama administration in 2009. Speakers demanded that the US open the border and let all of the migrants enter the country.

This rally was only the beginning of the movement we need to build in solidarity with the migrant caravan. Many people plan to go to the southern border to march the last leg of the trip with the caravan. Others intend to protest on the US side of the border. Left Voice is organizing a gofundme to send money for the supplies that the migrants need so desperately.
