While the ongoing rebellion is starting its second week, new questions are emerging. Where is the movement of liberation coming from, and where it is going?

As the streets of Minneapolis burn, the flames are lighting up and projecting the forgotten demands of millions of oppressed Black, brown, and poor youth. The “belly of the beast” is the new epicenter of class struggle against police violence and social inequality.

In this crisis, the response from union leaders has left much to be desired. Nowhere is this more evident than in a recent address by the president of the AFL-CIO, Richard Trumka. He offers only a “cure-all” bill in Congress, but a healthy labor movement would fight in strikes and in the streets. 

Abel Acuña was only 29 years old. Yesterday at Plaza de la Dignidad (ex Plaza Italia), violent repression was unleashed against protesters. This sent Acuña into a cardiac arrest. Acuña's death is the responsibility of Sebastián Piñera's government.

Six hundred PepsiCo workers in Argentina have been fired and their factory was closed. They are currently occupying the factory, despite lack of support from the union.

In an unprecedented power grab, Trump fired James Comey, the director of the FBI. The Democrats who also criticized Comey and even called for his resignation find themselves in a contradictory position. Some call it the beginning of the end of American democracy. However, the FBI is a repressive institution that dismantles left movements, not an institution to be defended.

The media is quick to paint the death of Fidel as the death of not only a cruel dictator, but also as the death of revolution. The youth and working class who are rising up all over the world show that this could not be further from the truth.
