After a national strike and days of mobilizations, the movement in the streets has defeated far-right president Javier Milei’s anti-worker Omnibus Bill.

This June, Starbucks implemented a new policy which prevented employees from decorating their stores for Pride. Instead of accepting this hypocrisy from the supposedly queer-friendly corporation, workers at over 150 unionized locations shut things down.

Helen Lewis, noted anti-trans author, wrote for the Atlantic on the “child gender culture war,” saying that not all trans children should be given access to gender-affirming care. She is wrong.

At a recent show in Knoxville, Tennessee, pop artist Lizzo brought drag queens onstage to perform with her — a clear stand against the recent drag ban passed in the state. This is an inspiring move from Lizzo, but as workers we must take action into our own hands, and take it further.

President Biden has put forward a new proposal to adjust Title IX regulations, supposedly to prevent discrimination against transgender athletes in public schools and universities. However, this proposal is not a real protection of trans people, but instead another move by Biden to look progressive enough to win votes without taking enough action to shake the status quo.

On Trans Day of Visibility, a group of trans and queer youth led nearly a thousand people through the streets of New York City with combative slogans on their lips. In the face of reactionary attacks on trans existence across the United States, these students and organizers sent a clear message of strength and solidarity to their trans and queer siblings whose existence is being suppressed, criminalized, and erased. Left Voice was proud to march with them and to take up their message of resistance as an integral part of the struggle for a better world. Inspired by their example, we call upon every sector of working and oppressed people to join this struggle as one innately tied to their own.

There is a massive attack on the rights of trans people, especially trans youth.

President Biden spent just nine seconds of his State of the Union speech addressing the oppression of trans people, despite Republicans advancing more than 300 anti-trans bills through state legislatures. In the Republican response, however, far-right governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders spent a significant portion of her time pushing anti-“woke” transphobic messaging. This is not a coincidence.

While state legislatures across the country have launched an unprecedented attack on trans youth, the New York Times saw fit to publish a pair of articles calling on liberals to make space for “gender skeptical” ideas among parents. They are wrong. Trans kids need more support, not gender skepticism.

Over 1,000 workers organized in the New York Times Guild staged a 24-hour work stoppage this week to demand higher wages, as well as better healthcare and pensions. This is the largest labor action to rock one of the world’s most influential bourgeois media outlets in over forty years.
