Peru’s Government Crumbles after Nationwide Protests and Brutal Repression
On the sixth day of national protests against the interim Peruvian government of Manuel Merino, installed after Congress ousted the sitting president in an impeachment, the National Police brutally repressed protesters in Lima, killing two. The news first led to Merino’s cabinet being dissolved, and then yesterday the acting president resigned.
