On this episode, we dig into the history and origin of the U.S. revolutionary Left and Trotskyism with Bryan Palmer, a historian focusing on labor and the Left who is a lifelong advocate of revolutionary politics. In particular, we discuss James P. Cannon, the founder of American Trotskyism.

Bryan Palmer also describes the broader U.S. socialist movement at the start of the 20th century, including the US Socialist Party and Communist Party, as well as class struggle in the 1920s and 30s. In this episode, we also discuss Stalinism and the Comintern, and the founding of the fourth international, among other topics that are key to understanding the history of the revolutionary left.
