As the nationwide strike at General Motors (GM) reaches its twelfth day, demonstrations of solidarity with the striking workers are arriving from across the world. On Monday, we reported on Mexican workers from the GM plant at Silao expressing international solidarity with their fellow American workers on strike. Brazilian GM workers have also expressed solidarity.

Most recently, South Korean workers decided to send a message of support and international solidarity with the striking GM workers in the U.S. GM workers in South Korea are themselves waging a battle against the American car manufacturer for wage increases and for permanent job positions for the thousands of precariously employed temporary workers. The Korean Metal Workers Union rejected GM’s proposal of freezing wages and withholding annual bonuses for the second consecutive year. Since the beginning of September, GM workers have been going on partial strikes every week, stopping for several hours most days or halting production for whole days.

In the pictures below, laid-off GM workers outside the Bupyeong plant can be seen standing in solidarity with striking GM workers in the U.S.

All Out for Gaza and against Police Repression on May Day

Just hours before May Day, NYPD attacked peaceful pro-Palestinian protesters at Columbia University and City College. As we march for a free Palestine, the working class must also march against the repression faced by those who stand up against the genocide.

Let’s Make a Historic May Day for This Historic Moment

As encampments for Palestine are being organized all over the country, it is essential for us to heed the call of Palestinian labor unions and mobilize on May Day. We must unite workers and students in a movement against the genocide, against repression, and for a free Palestine.
