Yesterday morning, a group of rank-and-file nurses, physicians, and other frontline workers came together outside Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City to forcefully decry the lack of access to personal protective equipment (PPE) and the failure of the state, their unions, and hospital administrators to adequately respond to their demands.

Despite the near silence from government officials and hospital executives, the worldwide media covered these workers courageously fight and speak out on behalf of their colleagues and other sectors of the working class who are exposed to COVID-19 at their workplaces.

These media outlets brought attention to the workers who recently formed the COVID-19 Frontline Workers Task Force at Mount Sinai Hospital which includes Left Voice member and nurse Tre Kwon. Without the support of their union leadership and with the risk of losing their jobs, the world watched workers clutch portraits of frontline workers who have already died from this crisis because of the bosses’ solution of inaction. The Task Force was formed to use self-organization to confront and reject a “business-as-usual” response.

The Labor Notes Conference this year takes place right after over 100 students were arrested at Columbia for protesting for Palestine. We must use this conference to build a strong campaign against the repression which will impact us all if it is allowed to stand.

Labor Notes Must Call on Unions to Mobilize for Palestine on May Day

As the genocide in Gaza rages on, the Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions has called on workers around the world to mobilize against the genocide on May 1. Labor Notes, one of the leading organizers of the U.S. labor movement, must heed this call and use their influence in the labor movement to call on unions to join the mobilization

All Eyes on Columbia: We Must Build a National Campaign to Defend the Right to Protest for Palestine

After suspending and evicting students and ordering the repression of a student occupation, Columbia University has become the ground zero for attacks against the pro-Palestine movement. What happens at Columbia in the coming days has implications for our basic democratic rights, such as the right to protest.

The New Labor Movement and the Need for Anti-Imperialist and Class Independent Politics
