As the Omicron variant continues to spread throughout the United States, it increasingly seems like everyone has covid. The number of confirmed cases is doubling or tripling every two to three days, and some estimates say that the country could reach one million cases a day soon. The US just broke its record for the highest number of daily Covid cases at 441,278.
It is in this context that the Centers for Disease Control recently cut the recommended isolation time for people with COVID-19. Previously, infected individuals were asked to isolate for ten days; now, they’re asked to isolate for just five. Asymptomatic individuals are allowed to leave quarantine without a negative covid test after that, but are asked to wear a mask around others for the five days following.
The Biden administration has made clear why they are changing their recommendation. It’s to get people back to work and keep the capitalist economy running. And this CDC change came at the behest of Delta airlines CEO and undoubtedly, other capitalists.
