Day of fury in Oaxaca: The Mexican Federal government of President Peña Nieto and the Oaxacan Governor, Gabino Cué, have ordered a brutal repression throughout the state of Oaxaca. So far there have been six confirmed deaths.

Teachers Occupy Radio and TV Stations in Chiapas

There has been an ongoing teachers’ strike to fight against the recent education reform imposed by Mexican President Peña Nieto. The movement recently faced harsh repression and attempts by national and local governments to evict protesters who occupied city squares. This caused thousands to take the streets in Chiapas.

There is Money for the Olympics, but not for Education

Students in Rio de Janiero are taking to the streets to fight for quality education and in support of the teachers strikes. The dire conditions of public schools and the lack of investment in education contrasts with the vast spending on the 2016 Rio Olympics.

To illustrate the absurdly unequal reality we currently live in, we should reflect on some facts recently made public by Forbes magazine. Sixty-two people hold as much wealth as the bottom 3.6 billion (half the world’s population). This victory for capitalism means loss for the predominantly Black residents of Flint and Detroit and for working class people around the world.
